Ukraine and russia start visits to civilian detention centers

In Ukraine, the Ombudsman's Office and representatives of the State Duma of the Russian Federation have started monitoring visits to places of detention of civilians on both sides and handing over sets of basic necessities.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets.

On April 23, Russians visited 17 Ukrainians in detention centers in Luhansk region. On May 3, representatives of the Ombudsman's Office visited together with the NGO "Nadiya" and handed over the previously agreed list of basic necessities to 17 defendants held in Ukraine.

"To confirm the validity of these monitoring visits, both parties exchanged lists of the persons concerned and videos confirming the fact of communication. Relatives of the Ukrainian prisoners were informed about the visit. We hope that this practice will lead to the unblocking of the procedure for the release of civilian hostages and convicts so that they can be returned home as soon as possible!" Lubinets said.
