Charles Michel emphasizes that supplying weapons to Ukraine should be a matter of days

During the discussion on Ukraine, EU leaders concluded that in the current situation, the EU does not need many words, but must fulfill its promises, as Ukraine needs weapons immediately.

So the supply of such weapons is not a matter of months, but of the next days and weeks.

This was stated by the President of the European Council Charles Michel following the first day of the European summit, writes Ukrinform. 

«Delivery of such assistance (for Ukraine - ed.) – is not a matter of months, it is a matter of days and weeks. It is very important that we fulfill our promises. I can assure you that all the participants, all the stakeholders are doing their best and making efforts to speed up this process. In a very short period of time, we have increased our defense production and industrial potential. But this is not enough. We have to do more and, if possible, use what is already available, especially air defense systems," said the President of the European Council.

He noted that during the meeting, the EU leaders once again showed unity, in particular, in supporting Ukraine. They, as always, had the opportunity to listen to the message from the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Two points are extremely important. The first is that we don't need so many words because they (Ukrainians) need more military equipment. We had a very good discussion on this. We realized that the member states, especially those with the relevant capabilities and capacities, it is important for them to provide Ukraine with more air defense systems, more ammunition," Charles Michel said.

The second important conclusion after the discussion on Ukraine, in his opinion, is the support of the Ukrainian «peace formula», especially on the eve of the peace conference to be held in Switzerland in June this year.

«This meeting is very important to engage the international community, with all countries around the world, especially from the Global South, in order to coordinate points of view, with the participation of the EU in this meeting in Switzerland. We are very determined to support Ukraine. We do not underestimate the current challenges and we realize that races have a responsibility to act," the President of the European Council emphasized.

«I would also like to emphasize that Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked us to do everything possible to try to convince the United States to provide more support, including financial assistance, which Ukraine is waiting for, », - Charles Michel added;
