US prepares new $1.2 billion military aid package for Ukraine

According to the Associated Press, on May 9, the United States will announce a new package of military support for Ukraine. The cost of the aid may amount to $1.2 billion.
According to the agency's interlocutors, the money will be used for long-term measures to strengthen Ukraine's air defense. This includes the purchase of Hawk anti-aircraft missile systems, ammunition, and air defense drones.
In addition, the new aid package may include the supply of artillery, missiles, as well as assistance in obtaining satellite imagery and funding for routine maintenance and spare parts for various weapons.
The package is expected to be allocated under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which provides for spending over the coming months or years to purchase items to meet the future needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, rather than more rapidly withdrawing weapons from Pentagon stockpiles.
