Russia has not yet granted the UN access to flooded areas to help residents

Russia has refused to provide assistance to UN representatives to residents of the left-bank part of the Kherson region who suffered from an explosion at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station.

This was stated by UN Under-Secretary-General Martin Griffiths in an interview with the AP agency. According to him, he met with Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzu to ask the Russian authorities to provide access to the occupied territory on Wednesday, June 7.

"During the conversation, we provided them with details to enable Moscow to make a decision that we hope will be positive. I hope that will happen," he said.

Griffiths also said that the UN was able to provide assistance to about 30,000 people in the government-controlled area.

The organization is likely to make a special appeal for additional funding to Ukraine to deal with the consequences of the dam explosion.

However, this can be discussed in a few weeks, when the consequences for the economy, environment and health of the population of the affected regions become clearer.
