EU on Russian attack on Poltava: Ukraine needs to be able to effectively repel such attacks
The European Union has stated that it will increase military support for Ukraine and expressed condolences over the Russian strike on Poltava, which left 53 people dead and 298 injured, based on reports from Ukraine's State Emergency Service.

Details: The EU emphasised its continued commitment to boosting military support for Ukraine, including providing air defence systems and ammunition.
Commenting on the strike on Poltava, the EU stressed that this is yet more deliberate bloodshed that proves Russia's intention to continue its brutal war against Ukraine.
The statement highlighted that, over the past two and a half years, Russia has subjected the people of Ukraine to terror through its criminal war of aggression, conducting indiscriminate missile and drone attacks across the country, primarily targeting civilians.
"We share the grief of the families of the victims and stand by the Ukrainian people," the statement emphasised.

- After the Russian attack on Poltava, John Kirby, the White House National Security Communications Advisor, said that the United States would continue to focus on strengthening Ukraine's air defences and pledged more assistance "in the coming weeks".
- On the morning of 4 September, Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine, which, based on the latest reports, killed seven people, including three children, in Lviv. That same morning, the Russians destroyed a hotel in the city of Kryvyi Rih in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, leaving five people injured, including a 10-year-old child.
