Brussels approves 1 billion euros for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine

EU Council allocates 1 billion euros for Ukraine

The Council of the European Union has agreed to allocate 1 billion euros for the joint purchase of ammunition and missiles for Ukraine, the EU official website reports.

The European Peace Fund will finance the procurement

This amount is allocated under the European Peace Facility (EPF) to strengthen Ukraine's capacity and resilience to defend its independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and civilian population from Russian aggression.

Artillery shells and missiles to be purchased

The funds will be used to purchase 155 mm artillery shells and, if necessary, rockets. These purchases will be made jointly by EU member states in the European defense industry.

The EU supports Ukraine's armed forces
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell expressed support for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He noted that Ukraine needs much more ammunition to protect its people and territory.

The total amount of EU military assistance is growing

With this decision, the total amount of EU military assistance to Ukraine reaches 5.6 billion euros. Earlier, a decision was made to rapidly supply ammunition from existing stocks, for which €2 billion was allocated.

An important step in supporting Ukraine

The approval of this decision is another significant step in the EU's support for Ukraine. Providing the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the necessary amount of ammunition will help the country to confidently defend its people and its territory from external threats.
