The United States does not oppose the transfer of F-16 fighters to Ukraine by other countries

The United States is not against third countries providing Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets.

This was stated by a Pentagon official in a commentary to Politico published on May 18.

When asked to comment on the US position on other countries providing F-16s to Ukraine, the unnamed Pentagon official referred to an article published in January by the publication, which quoted a senior Defense Department official: "I don't think we're opposed to it." However, the source emphasized that no decision had been made.

Countries planning to transfer F-16s to Ukraine must obtain permission from the United States, which is their manufacturer. The US has previously rejected such requests if there were concerns about the transfer of specific confidential technologies.

So far, it does not appear that any European government has formally requested the U.S. to send the fighter jets to Ukraine, but countries are likely to postpone some of this debate until the NATO summit in Vilnius in July, Politico notes.
