Potential damage to Patriot as a result of the Russian missile attack on Kyiv

During today's large-scale missile attack on Kyiv by the Russian armed forces, the Patriot system was probably damaged but remained intact and was not destroyed.

This information is cited by CNN, which refers to a statement by a US official.

The US official noted that the country is currently assessing the extent of such damage. The results of this assessment will help to decide whether the system needs to be completely restored or whether it can be repaired on site.

It should be noted that the Russian Ministry of Defense has already stated that "the American-made Patriot air defense missile system was damaged after a point attack by the Kinzhal hypersonic missile system on Kyiv."

Instead, Ukrainian officials said they had successfully destroyed all six hypersonic missiles launched by the Russians, but Ukrainian military officials refused to comment on Russian reports of damage to the Patriot system.

"We cannot comment on this. We refrain from commenting on Russian sources," said Yuriy Ihnat, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force.

Currently, Ukraine has two Patriot air defense systems, one of which was donated by the United States and the other by Germany and the Netherlands in a joint effort. It is not yet known which of these systems may have been damaged.

U.S. officials claim that the Russians were able to detect signals emitted by the Patriot system, which allowed them to target it with a hypersonic Kinzhal missile.

It is worth noting that at night, on May 16, during another missile attack on Ukraine, the occupiers launched, in particular, 6 Kinzhal missiles. They were all aimed at Kyiv.

Yuriy Ihnat, a representative of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, noted that all X-47 Kinzhal missiles launched by the Russian occupiers were aimed at the capital of Ukraine. However, all of them were successfully destroyed by the air defense system.

"The work was extremely successful. Six "Daggers" is an impressive result. Kyiv continues to be in the center of events, the capital has always been in the main focus of the Russians, so it is defended by strong means. It is home to infrastructure and other important government facilities," Ihnat emphasized.

As for the Kalibr missiles, the Russians launched them from the Black Sea. They flew in different directions, but all were destroyed in the south.
