Let's not let Putin feel comfortable and destroy security - President of the European Parliament

Roberta Mecola called on France, as one of the main players on the European stage, to take a mature and responsible position, with which Europe must evolve and change together in order not to weaken.

«Our support for Ukraine should not weaken in any way. It should be the opposite of what Putin thinks. We will not allow him to feel comfortable and destroy the security of Europe, as he is trying to destroy Ukraine. This war, which is going on on our continent, always remains in the forefront," the President of the European Parliament said.

She regrets that trade relations with Moscow, in particular the supply of Russian gas, «for many looked like a factor of stability».  

According to her, Europeans have already realized this mistake, and «the truth was that nothing prevented Russia from attacking Ukraine in the most brutal and illegal way». Metzola added that Europe must arm itself to defend itself and answer the most important question - how strong is its democracy to withstand total threats. «Now it is a matter of survival for Europe», - said the President of the European Parliament.

«We have no choice but to defend our law, our values, our democratic models. We have no alternative," she emphasized, noting that «leaving Ukraine would be a moral and political mistake. That is why we are now finding all the ways to support Ukraine as strongly as we can»
