The disappearance of the Titan bathyscaphe: Sky News reports on first wreckage found

The landing gear and rear cover were found today, June 22, in a debris field during the search for the missing "Titan".

This is reported by Sky News.

Former Royal Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral James Burnell-Nugent said the nature of the report suggests that the wreckage is somehow connected to the Titan.

A salvage expert told Sky News that the landing frame and rear cover of the missing submarine had been found.

A remotely operated underwater vehicle on the seabed made a "breakthrough" and the US Coast Guard is assessing the information ahead of a press conference this evening. Salvage expert David Mearns, who knows two of the five people on board, received a WhatsApp message saying that two important parts of the system had been found, but the hull had not yet been located.

"The debris field implies the destruction of the submersible. it really kind of indicates the worst-case scenario, which is catastrophic," Mearns added.
