Scholz: Germany will support Ukraine as long as necessary
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz confirmed that Germany will support Ukraine as long as necessary.
"We support Ukraine financially, politically, and militarily. We will continue to support you for as long as it takes," he said at a briefing after a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday.
"More than a million Ukrainian citizens have taken refuge in Germany. We stand in solidarity with the citizens of Ukraine," he said, noting that "the close relations between our countries will last for decades."
Scholz reminded Ukraine of a new military support package worth 2.7 billion euros, including Leopard 2 tanks, Marder armored personnel carriers, Iris-T systems and ammunition.
Scholz also stated that "we are in favor of holding Russia accountable".
