French Senate recognizes the Holodomor as genocide of Ukrainians

The French Senate has adopted a resolution recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of Ukrainians. This is reported on the president's website.

In the resolution, deputies call on the French government to officially recognize "the famine, deportation and extermination methodically organized by the Soviet authorities against millions of Ukrainians in 1932 and 1933 as genocide."

The Senate also called on the French government to publicly condemn the genocide "committed by the Soviet authorities against the Ukrainian rural population in 1932 and 1933."

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, thanked the French parliament for adopting the resolution.

"With this historically important decision, France joins the coalition of states that condemn the actions of the totalitarian regime and the destruction of Ukrainians. Such crimes must not be repeated," he wrote on Twitter.
