Meta removes nearly 800,000 Hamas-related posts
Meta has removed or flagged as disturbing content more than 795,000 posts that substantially support the actions of Palestinian militant group Hamas after its invasion of Israel, Bloomberg reports.
Meta said it is working with fact-checkers who speak Hebrew and Arabic, blocking certain hashtags and taking other measures after European Commissioner Thierry Breton warned CEO Mark Zuckerberg and other social networks to combat Hamas-related disinformation.
It is claimed that after the attack by Palestinian militants on Israel, Meta removed seven times more content for violating its Hebrew and Arabic policies than in the previous few months.
The company noted that Hamas, which the US, EU and UK have recognized as a terrorist organization, is banned from all its platforms (Facebook Instagram, Whatsapp) and any praise or significant support for the militants will be removed.
"Teams of experts from across our company have been working around the clock to monitor our platforms while protecting people's ability to use our apps to shed light on important events happening on the ground," Meta said in a statement.
Hamas Invasion of Israel and the Fight Against Disinformation
Last week, Hamas militants invaded Israel. They killed and took hostages both military and civilians. In response, Jerusalem launched its operation against the terrorists. The country launched a series of strikes on the Gaza Strip.
The European Union has warned Elon Musk that it may take measures against Twitter, as the social network spreads disinformation about Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel.
