Putin consolidates control over Belarus through nuclear weapons transfer - ISW

Russia has begun transferring tactical nuclear warheads to Belarus, in accordance with previously announced plans.
Analysts at the US Institute for the Study of War believe that this is Russia's way of consolidating its control over Belarus.
On June 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia had transferred the first batch of tactical nuclear warheads to Belarus.
According to the dictator, Russian troops will transfer all planned batches of tactical weapons to Belarus by the end of 2023. The ISW is confident that this is Putin's way of consolidating military control over Belarus, but it is unlikely that this portends any Russian escalation
